How can the Advisory Service help you?
This service has been introduced because many of our applicants have complex enquiries about how the skills assessment application and assessment process relates to their particular circumstances and nominated occupations. This new service should assist applicants and migration agents to make informed decisions about their application for a skills assessment and to prepare applications with correct documentation which are assessment ready.
A fee is payable for using the Advisory Service but applicants using the service receive a discount on a subsequent application for a Skills Assessment. Using the Advisory Service should streamline your application process by saving you time and resources. See Fee Payable below.
What is a general professional occupation?
VETASSESS uses the term general professional occupation to refer to an occupation classified by the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) as an occupation for a Manager, Professional, Technician, Community Worker, Personal Service Worker, Clerical Worker, Administrative Worker, or Sales Worker. VETASSESS is the officially designated assessing authority for skills assessments for migration purposes for some ANZSCO occupations in these categories. These occupations are listed on Australias’ Skilled Occupation Lists (SOLs) and Employer Nomination Scheme Occupation List (ENSOL) as occupations which applicants may nominate for migration purposes.
What is the difference between advice offered through this Advisory Service and a Skills Assessment?
There is a difference between the advice provided by this Advisory Service and a Skills Assessment issued by VETASSESS for migration purposes.
The Advisory Service is not a Skills Assessment for migration and
does not provide a specific assessment of the level and relevance of your qualifications and employment to your nominated occupation. The Advisory Service takes you through the steps to make an application for a Skills Assessment, provides information about your nominated occupation which is relevant to your application, and offers a preliminary document check to assist you with our documentary evidence requirements. Please note that advice offered does not guarantee a definitive outcome of your Skills Assessment against a select occupation.
A Skills Assessment is the assessment required for migration purposes, and is a formal assessment of your qualifications and employment against the criteria for your nominated occupation. The Skills Assessment is subject to verification/integrity checks of the documents and evidence provided, and will require additional research and analysis. Consultation with industry specialists may also be required. If you require a Skills Assessment you need to complete the SRG1 Application for Skills Assessment form or SRG29 Application for Post 485 Skills Assessment which are both available on the VETASSESS website at
www.vetassess.com.au
How will the Advisory Service assist you?
The Advisory Service will review your qualifications and employment details and documents and will advise you whether additional documents or evidence is required to apply for a Skills Assessment. You may ask any other questions about the skills assessment application process relevant to your nominated occupation including our criteria for the occupation you selected.
What information do you need to provide?
In order to provide accurate advice, you need to inform us of:
- the visa type you are considering
This is because only certain occupations may be nominated for particular visa purposes. The skills assessment application process will vary according to whether the skills assessment is required for temporary or permanent residency visa purposes.
- your qualifications and employment history
We ask for some information about your educational and employment history so that we can identify issues and provide specific information relevant to your proposed application for a skills assessment and nominated occupation. As appropriate to your situation, we may also provide information about an alternative occupation which you may wish to consider. For your employment we need to know what positions you have held, the nature of your main duties, the duration of your employment, and the name of the business which employed you. Applicants intending to apply for a 485 visa only need to provide qualification details.
To place your enquiry in context, we ask you whether you have previously applied to VETASSESS for a skills assessment. However, to protect client confidentiality, VETASSESS would not disclose details of previous skills assessments to enquirers whose e-mail address differs from the address given in that application.
Why do we ask for documents?
When you submit an enquiry to the Advisory Service, we require scanned copies of your
qualification/s and academic transcripts. If you are considering an application for a
skills assessment for permanent residency purposes, we also require scanned copies of
documentary evidence of up to two of your employment positions which you consider most
relevant to your nominated occupation. Supplementary evidence of employment may also be
provided eg occupational licenses or registration. For the Advisory Service, the scanned
copies do not have to be certified as true copies of the original. However, if you
subsequently apply for a Skills Assessment, you will need to submit properly certified documents as explained
on our website under Required Documents at
http://www.vetassess.com.au/migrate_to_australia/qa2_required_documents.cfm
We need to see the scanned documents to understand your qualifications and employment
experience accurately so that we can identify relevant issues and provide an informed
response to your enquiry. Also, we can advise you about other documents which may be
required when you apply for a skills assessment.
Fee payable
The fee payable for each enquiry session is AUD $130.
This is non-refundable. A one-off discount of AUD $50 applies to your first
subsequent application to VETASSESS for a skills assessment with a nominated occupation in the
general professional category i.e. for a non-trade occupation.
